Before Lacintha’s journey took her on a path of self-discovery with a passion to share her knowledge through teaching, she worked as a Lawyer practicing Criminal Defense Litigation in South Africa.
Upon settling in Canada, she pursued her interest in Martial Arts and took trainings in Taekwondo, Motobu Ryu Karate, Kyokushin Karate and Sayoc Kali, a Filipino edged weapon art.
About 16 years ago, while living in rural Alberta, Lacintha discovered a weekly Hatha yoga class held in a building on Main street. That was the start of her yoga practice.
Lacintha began her 200 YTT with the sole intention of connecting to her practice, beyond the asana, so to speak. Toward the end of training, the seed to teach was planted. Her opportunity to teach was born when her Sensei asked her to run a yoga program at the Edmonton Kyokushin Karate Club Dojo. Lacintha’s teaching journey progressed from there.
We asked Lacintha a few questions about teaching at Bliss…
What is your absolute favorite class to teach and why?
Oh stop! I can’t pick just one! I love them all. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to teach a variety of classes at Bliss, from Glow Flow to Yin, Yoga Nidra; Peaceful Restoration, Hatha, Hips and Core. As a teacher, there was a learning and sharing opportunity in each of those classes since they all attracted different types of student personalities and energies.
What do you love the most about teaching at Bliss?
Our community – from our amazing students to the closeness of our staff. We really are a family at Bliss. Oh, now you’re making me all teary.
Lacintha is a voracious reader, any time she has a spare few minutes, you’ll catch her in a book. Lacintha, her husband Oshean and their kids are a karate family and enjoy spending their time with each other in various activities.
